Virus

Virus problems seem to be getting worse and worse and have adversely affected both
ourselves and several of our clients over the past year.

Our own problems, which were introduced via floppy, were so severe that the only remedy was to format the drives of Server and all PC's on the network as well as our laptops which connect periodically.

Reinstalling all of the software and reconfiguring the system is of course a time consuming business that no small or medium business relishes. Lessons have been learnt the hard way and we have tried to make our clients, as well as everyone else that we work with, aware of the potential danger, disruption and cost of virus contamination.

Our own problems were caused by failure to upgrade the virus definitions of our Norton Anti-Virus Software in a disciplined manner. Any Anti Virus Software is only as good as the definitions that it carries as new viruses are launched at an alarming rate. Most proprietary anti-virus software makes provision for this by making the latest definitions available for download from their Website

We recommend that all of our clients ensure that they have installed a quality Anti-Virus Software Application suited to their systems. Also that they introduce management procedures to ensure that the essential operation of updating the virus definitions is carried out on a regular basis as recommended by the software vendor.
